Another one of my passions, and probably the most tedious of all the hundreds of passions I claim, is beaded embroidery. My beaded embroidery contrasts the simplicity of the pieces in the Spirals and Vortexes series by being anything but open, breezy, or of simple design. My beaded work is heavy, literally and aesthetically, and thick with thousands of tiny beads. The shapes evoke those of the blossoms in oriental motif and textile design.

Rushing of Wings

So, you know how cool it is to look up and see a thousand little birds flocking together in the air, wings rushing as one, making the sound of a wind? This piece is the first of the Vortex series, which inspired by vortexes of birds in the sky. Hundreds of french knots and straight stitches create the pieces in this series.

First Embroidery On This Blog

I christen this blog with the first of many (hopefully) embroidery pieces! This was the original Spiral piece in my series of Spirals. It's still inspiring new pieces! There's something about embroidering these spirals and seeing stitches and colors intermingle that is really meditative.
